Une légende raconte que le rouge-gorge chercha un arbre pour s’abriter du froid pour l’hiver. Tous les arbres lui refusèrent l’hospitalité sauf le houx. Le rouge-gorge se blessa avec ses feuilles piquantes, colorant ainsi son plumage en rouge. En souvenir de cette histoire, le houx porte toujours des baies rouges..
